Become a Licensed Spray Polyurethane Foam (SPF) Applicator

The best way to find out about local training programs is to contact nationwide manufacturers directly. They can advice on who provides the best training at the most reasonable prices. Application of SPF insulation and foam roofing requires highly specialized training in order to get good results. SPF is probably the best long term flat or low slope roof solution, as it lasts the life of the building, something else no other flat roof material, membrane, or product can claim.

There are many other existing providers of SPF applicator training and support. However, this is the first time it will be offered through a distributor of traditional types of insulation. To existing insulation contractors. Hopefully this will be a positive move forward towards making SPF insulation a viable option in many new markets.

Note: this training provided by Lapolla and IDI will not be for roof installations, but for residential and commercial interior insulation application. I just chose a picture of a foam roof installation because I happen to like the picture...

Lapolla / IDI Partnership

Both Lapolla and IDI are partnering to help thousands of traditional insulation contractors make the transition to being offering SPF foam insulation. As more manufacturers and distributors begin to partner to offer services like this to existing contractors, SPF insulation will become more readily available throughout North America.

Lapolla: a leading manufacturer and distributor of spray polyurethane foam and coatings.
IDI Distributors: a leading nationwide distributor of traditional insulation products.

Airtight: SPF Equipment, Training and Support

The new “Air Tight” program will include both equipment, training and licensing for the use of spray polyurethane foam (SPF) for insulation. Lapolla will provide equipment, training and tech support. The training & licensing, offered by Lapolla through IDI will allow many existing insulation contractors to offer SPF foam insulation to their customers.

Will Traditional Forms of Insulation Become Obsolete?

That's great that steps are slowing being made in the polyurethane spray foam industry that are helping spray foam insulation move out of the fringe and into the mainstream. This is probably good news for the manufacturers, but it's good news for consumers as well, both residential and commercial. Perhaps if the industry grows enough, material prices will drop making SPF foam more competitive with more traditional forms of insulation. If this happened, maybe more traditional forms of insulation will eventually become obsolete...
