Oil and Gas sector

Postby DanielJoseph » Tue May 26, 2009 10:41 pm

Petroleum is an important component of the Oil and Gas industry, which has given the industry an indispensable status. The petroleum forms many economically viable by-products when it is constituted with other non-hydrocarbons. Although there is a massive shift towards renewable energy sources for the fulfillment of energy demands of the world, world energy system will continue to be dominated by fossil fuels.

The world energy demand is projected to rise by 1.8% per year in the coming years. So are the profits from the investments in oil and gas. The dependence of the world on fossil fuels is bound to rise in these years. This is more so because of petroleum, which is an important component of the Oil and Gas industry. Petroleum gives rise to many by-products when mixed with other non-hydrocarbons.

Fossil fuels have always been a dominant source of energy and power for the world. And in this category, Oil and Gas holds a major share. It is believed that in the coming years, the worldwide consumption of oil will increase to 30 million barrels higher than are consumed daily today.

I agree, the demands of fossil fuels are growing, while in fact the supply is shrinking. Unless the world ramps up oil production or we start to discover more viable long term solutions this probably will continue to become a growing worldwide problem.

I think efforts, such as New Urbanist communities are good demonstrations of how we can cut down on our usage of fossil fuels. These compact, efficient, but attractive communities are built to make pedestrian traffic easier and faster, so that people are not forced to always use their cars to travel. I think improving public transportation can help too; such as adding new subways or better, faster, more attractive methods of public transit might also help our country wean itself from our fossil fuel addictions.
